🏛️
Ancient India, circa 1000 BCE - 500 CE

Parvati is the wife of Lord Shiva, one of the primary deities in Hinduism. She is also known as the mother goddess, the goddess of love, fertility and marriage. Parvati is the reincarnation of Sati, the first wife of Shiva, who had immolated herself in the yajna (sacrificial fire) performed by Daksha, father of Sati. Moved by Shiva's grief, the gods pleaded with Brahma to recreate Sati as Parvati, who would come to be the consort of Shiva and the mother of their children.

Another reference states that Parvati was born from the left side of Lord Shiva when he was meditating on the goddess Rudra, later known as Parvati. After her creation, Parvati, who was initially arrogant and proud, began to tease her husband, Shiva, by trying to distract him from his meditation. This angered Shiva, who opened his third eye and burnt Parvati to ashes. Moved by his wife's suffering, Shiva wept and created the goddess Ganga to wash away the ashes and bring Parvati back to life. This act of compassion and love further strengthened the bond between Parvati and Shiva.
