Irene of Athens, also known as Saint Irene, was a Greek princess and virgin martyr, celebrated in the Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches. She was born in Athens around 270 AD, and was the daughter of the Roman senator Valerian and his Greek wife Eudoxia.
