Legend has it that King Bharata, the father of Lord Rama, had a charioteer named Dhruva. Dhruva was an ungrateful and disrespectful boy who doubted his father's superiority and even challenged him to a chariot race. In anger, King Bharata expelled Dhruva from the kingdom. Dhruva, repentant and seeking forgiveness, went to the sage Trisanku for guidance. Trisanku, who was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu, advised Dhruva to meditate on Vishnu and offered him a place in the heavens as a reward for his devotion.
