📖 What Does Amaryllis Mean?

In Greek mythology, Amaryllis was a nymph who loved Alcioneus, a shepherd. She was told to plant the beautiful red amaryllis flower in the ground and leave it undisturbed for 30 nights, after which it would bloom and reveal her love. Alcioneus, however, left for war and did not return. Amaryllis, in her despair, prayed for the flower to bloom in his absence, and it did, continuing to bloom every year on the anniversary of her love.
